Our Vision​

A healthy and Wealthy Kakamega Forest and its environs.

Our Strengths

The strength of Muileshi CFA are:


1.  Is registered with the registrar of societies (Attorney General Chambers).
2.  Has six CBOs registered with it.
3.   Has several paid up members.
4.   Has harmonious relationship with KFS, KWS and Provincial administration.
5.   Has partnered with several NGOs.
6.   Has recruited and trained 15 scouts from every CBO to assist in forest protection.

Challenges

1.  No funds to start income generating activities to reduce pressure to the forest.
2.  Failure to sensitize and capacity build the communities to be independence.
3.  Lack of facilitation and upkeep of scouts and asserted staffs of the CFA.
5. Facilitation on communication and network.

​Achievements
1. Signed an agreement with ACT to facilitate a camp site, Guava juice factory.  Facilities bought for Eco-camp activity i.e. Kitchen Utensils, Tents, Amusement park for children, 200 chairs and 12 plastic tables with  garden umbrellas, Public system Address e.t.c.  On juice production, we have bought a fruit pulper and sink to process fruit juice esp. guava.
2. Signed a Participatory Forest Management Agreement and Community Forest Agreement with Kenya Forest Service.  This was done by the Director—KFS on 9th Nov. 2012.
3. Exchange visits to other CFAs for conservation education.  Already covered Mt. Kenya and Coast regions.
4. Installed 46 bee hives in the Kakamega forest (issued by KFS) for the communities’ benefits in three (3) CBOs. (IKUCHI, SHAMU and BUSH)
5. We have bought a piece of land where we are intending to build a CFA office and cooperative soon.  The cooperative is already registered with Ministry of cooperative Development and marketing.
6. Introduction of PELIS to members adjacent to the Forest. Members cultivate foodstuff for their families hence reducing pressure to the forest.
7. Establishment of tree nurseries in every CBOs and private homes for planting and selling tree seedlings.

​Mission
To work with the Kenya Government, government agencies, including Kenya Forest Service (KFS), Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS), National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA), NGOs and other Stakeholders in Kenya, East Africa and beyond to conserve, protect, reforestate and rehabilitate the unique Kakamega Forest.

​Muileshi CFA objectives
1.  Control entry of forest dwellers in Kakamega forest.
2.  Act as agent to articulate Government policies on Forest, Wildlife management and Environmental issues through respective department i.e. KFS, KWS, Provincial Administration and other relevant Stakeholders.
3.  Formulate and implement forest user groups’ programmes consistence with the traditional forest user rights on community concerned in accordance with sustainable user criteria.
4.  Protect sacred grooves and protect trees e.g Kambiri community Forest, TIRIKI MUSITUNI/BASOMI cultural forests.
5.  Keep the service informed of any development change and occurrences within the forest which are critical for the conservation of Bio-diversity.
6. Solving problems encountered by area residents as a result of conflict of interests with the departments concerned as per 2(a) above.
7. To harmonize peaceful co-existence,
    maintain good working relations and
    promoting understanding within Wildlife and Forest services.
8. Preserve the Forest and Wildlife for economic cultural, wood fuel, reservoir and ecological benefits.
9.   Prevent illegal harvest of forest products.
10. Educate the community on illegal and legal activities of the forest/wildlife  and  
      improvement on environment and tourism.
11. Help in forest fire fighting.
12. Work in collaboration with forest department and wildlife.
13. Controlling the collection and disposal of forest product.
