Muileshi CFA is a community forest association which was formed in 2005 and registered in 2009 with the Registrar of Societies as per Forest Act 2005 and is co-managing the Kakamega forest with KFS and KWS. It covers Municipality, Ileho and Shinyalu divisions of Kakamega county within Western Conservancy of Kenya. Muileshi CFA is made up of six community based
organizations ( CBOs) namely:
MU-SHA – Musembe and Shamiloli
BU-SH – Bukhungu and Shihingu
SHA-MU – Shanderema and Mukomari
IKU-CHI – Ikuywa and Chirobani
KACOFA – Kakamega Community Associate
KEEP – Kakamega environmental Education
Programme
The CFA has signed an agreement with KFS on
Carbon offsets that is in progress. Currently, Muileshi CFA with support from USAID through ACT! (Formerly PactKenya) has reforestated 150 hectares with indigenous trees at Iloro /Kisaina block of Kakamega forest for carbon.
