The main Economic practice of the target community is pastoralism  Since ancestral times, the Maasais have been fully dependent on their livestock rearing which has been resulting in frequent migration in search of water and pasture.

The Maasai communities have been time and another faced with food insecurity, which is as a result of poor diversity of livelihood methods. MIDI will try to address the issues of food security and other community felt needs to reduce the chances of dry season's replications, i.e. the community undergoing hunger and other problematic issues during the dry season.

MIDI was registered in 2001 but managed to get the first donor in 2003. The sources of funds has been Food Resource Bank (FRB) , Canadian Food Grain Bank (CFGB), and both channel their funds through MCC.

MIDI is planning to expand its scope of operation but the implementation resources are limited. MIDI is currently in the process of fundraising for more funds to undertake more projects.

The organisation is soliciting for funds through building of partnerships and networks with other willing donors/funding agencies.
